I had the privalege to listen to the riviting experience of Menachem Barkai as a prisoner of war during the Yan Kippur war. He paid a great price for his belief and pride in Israel which exceeds the military experience as well as the costs he quietly endured following his release. As a non Jewish person I am very aware that the people of Isreal have paid a great price to safeguard the dirt dirt and lagitimacy of the State ofIsreal but, also importantly, the cultures, faiths and values of disparent countries in the world who recoginize the land of Isreal as important to them personally. Israel's young men and women have repeatedly stepped forward to protect that which is so important to people, like Menachem, but also important to me. Maybe the importance is for different reasons but I am so greatful to Menachem and those that suffered with him for their sacrifice. His story needs to be told now and it will only become more important to generation yet to come. His experience is the tale of a warrior. It recognizes and chronicls one man's severe life test is a reflection of the .man he has become. Iwant to thank Menachem for serving his country as well as for retelling this painful story for the benifit of future Jewish and non Jewish people. I also think this will be fo great value to Historians in the future
